Penis health is very important to your sex life, so keep your penis healthy, here's how.
The health of the penis is most often the indicator of the owner's health. The quality of the sperm is often the best health indicator.
In this section we're going to talk about semen quality, what are the signs that something is wrong. When you finish reading this article you'll be a qualified semen reader.
First you should know that semen is made of 65% fluid form the seminal vesicles, 30 – 35% fluid from the prostate and 5% from the vasa and of course, of sperm.
Semen contains free aminoacids, fructose, citric acid, enzymes, phosphorylcholine, zinc, potassium and prostaglandin. How much sperm is produced can vary from a few drops and go up to 6ml.
The amount of sperm contained in one ejaculate can varies depending on the ejaculate volume and ow much it has been stored before ejaculation. So the amount of sperm ranges between 40 million and 600 million “swimmers” in one ejaculate. As much as that might seem, the 600 million sperm could only cover the head of a pin.
Now let's talk a little about how healthy semen look, smells and well, tastes like.
These three are the three easiest to check indicators in semen health.
Semen look: cloudy white fluid, in 30 minutes from ejaculation it becomes runny and clear.
Semen smell: you shouldn't get scared if the semen smells like chlorine, it is normal. However, doctors advise you to pay them a visit if your semen has a strong and foul smell.
Semen taste: well, the different components give different tastes. For example the fructose gives semen a sweet taste. You should know that semen taste can differ from day to day, not to mention from man to man.
Now let's talk about what abnormal semen is and how can you tell if your semen is normal.
Low ejaculate volume: If the volume of semen greatly decreases of semen is not ejaculated most likely means that there's a blockage along the way.
The semen is watery: This usually means that the ejaculate goes back into the bladder instead of exiting through the penis. This is retrograde ejaculation and it's not dangerous. You should know however that abnormal semen liquefaction can be caused by abnormalities of the prostate, so you should get your prostate examined just in case.
The semen is thick or lumpy: If your semen is viscous and you're trying to have a baby you should know that the viscosity may be preventing your from succeeding as it reduces sperm motility. A small volume of semen can be blamed on low hydration, the use of fluids during sex, many ejaculations in a small period of time. One other reason for a small semen volume is aging.
You should always go see your doctor if your semen:
Is red or brown: this is usually caused by blood. If the coloration goes away in a few days it could have been due to a small blood vessel rupturing during ejaculation and it's not something to worry about it. If the coloration continues you should go see a doctor. Prologued coloration of semen can be caused by infection, trauma and sometimes by cancer.
Is yellowish or green: It's not abnormal for the semen to have a little yellow hint to the color. You should worry when your semen has an uncharacteristic yellow or greenish color, that's most often a sign of gonorrhea, an STD. If it is gonorrhea it can be treated with antibiotics.
Has a foul smell: foul smelling semen is almost always a sign of infection. You must go see your doctor.
